DIY How to make a tutu

All ideas are priceless. Not for Sale. :)

Instead of buying a tutu dress, why not make one! It is a creative and simple way to save money while making your child look great. All you need are a few supplies and you can create it with the help of this guide! There is also no hassle of sewing as we are using the no-sew technique to save time and for it to not unravel in the future.

Supplies:
1. 6" tulle of your color choice
2. Elastic no-sew waistband
3. Scissors
4. Measuring Tape
5. Flat surface

Step 1: You must first measure your child's waist. Be sure to measure their waist downwards as well so you can determine where you want the tutu to fall. The average tutu is about 12 inches downwards from the waist. (This measurement is to determine which size waistband you need to order to make the appropriate size tutu!)

Step 2: It is recommended that you purchase the 6" tulle as that requires no cutting on your end. It is the perfect size for tutu making. Depending on how fluffy you want your tutu, you can use a lot of tulle or a little. It all depends on your style! However, if you do want it fluffy and full than you may need to consider at least 75 yards of tulle on spools.

Step 3: If you decide to use 12 inches to be used from the waist, you will need to make strips that are twice as long. So cut your tulle 24 inches long. Use your measuring tape as a guide for when you cut! Now set the strips aside when you're done cutting.

Step 4: You can now start knotting your tulle on the no-sew waistband! If you decide to make a super fluffy tutu skirt than gather three strips together, fold it in half, and slip the folded part underneath the waist band. Grab the two long sides of the tulle and bring them back up through the fold and pull tight to create a knot. Continue doing this process until you are satisfied with your tutu.

Step 5: Once you have finished creating your tutu, if you think that it is too long, you can try trimming the bottom to the desired length.

Step 6: Enjoy your work! Put it on your child and watch them be happy!
